While the term bachelor carries the connatation of carefree and single, the label for unmarried males in China, 'bare branches', carries a sense of shame - and pertains to the fact that these men will not contribute to the family tree. The one child policy, coupled with a preference for male children has skewed China's sex ratio and today there are 20 more million men under the age of 30 than women. It's predicted that in another 15 years there will be an excess of some 44 million males of marriageable age. This multimedia project follows the stories of two in twenty million leftover men, Wang Dianchun and Yang Zhen.
